New Headquarters Development

In early 2003, Minns Estates acquired an option on the land (owned by the
Ministry of Defence) and the neighbouring market place and applied for
planning permission to build a combined retail and residential
development to include provision for the two cadet forces. The picture left shows a computer simulation of the entire finished development.

The Cadet Forces HQ to be known as "Deaufort House" is the nearest wing of the building up to the small balconies on the road
side.

The accommodation is over 3 floors; the ground floor being an entrance
lobby with toilet facilities, stairwell and lift. The majority of this
floor will is a retail unit which will be leased back to the developer.

On the first floor is office space for ATC and ACF and three classrooms.
On the second floor a further classroom, parade hall, kitchen/servery and stores.

The Squadron was located on Kidlington High Street opposite Tesco (formerly
Sterling Cinema) since the 1950's after it moved from a building at Oxford Airport.

In the late 1960's the Air Cadets were joined on the site by the Army Cadet Force detachment and the wooden "Spooner Hut" buildings were erected.

On Monday 27th October 2003 work began on the new site. As a stipulation
of the sale of the land, the first phase of the development will be the
new Cadet Forces HQ. This was completed in June 2004.

After moving into the new HQ
the old Spooner huts were demolished to
make way for the rest of the retail and residential buildings.
Having a
new HQ is an exciting time for the Squadron, as it has increased the
training space we have available and provides better security for our
equipment.
