Shooting with 1315

The main rifle used by cadets in the Air Training Corp is the No. 8 rifle- otherwise known as the .22 rifle. It is a hand operated, bolt action, single shot accurate training rifle. It is a development of an earlier larger rifle the No. 4 303 which was used in the second  World War and which has now been adapted by ourselves and other cadet forces. Here at 1315 SQN we go to a local indoor range as well as having opportunities to use the ranges at RAF Stations. The rifle itself is very simple to use and uses two iron sights- a backsight in addition to a foresight. The backsight is adjustable and can adjust to multiple ranges (25-100 yards). See below the .22 rifle in action
.
Another rifle used in the Air Training Corp is the L98A2. The L98A2 recently replaced the ‘A1’ version back in the year of 2009. The main difference between them is simply that the latest version features gas parts making the rifle semi-automatic.The maximum capable firing range is 500m as a squad rifle and 300m as an individual. The rifle itself weighs 4.9KG with no additional features added on. Other than that there are no major differences between the two. This rifle can be used in a outdoor range called a Gallery range and also at RAF Bases.
